is satisfied that you have, by your good conduct, deserved it. He will als have power to terminate your appointment at any time within the said three years on giving you three months' notice or one month's salary in lieu of notice, andproviding
you with a return passage to England. If the appointment
is terminated at the end of the said three years you will be
given a free passage back to England, provided that your con-
duct has been satisfactory. If it is continued you will be
placed on the permanent and pensionable establishment, but your chim to a passage back to England will lapse. When placed on the pensionable establishment you will receive salary at the rate of £360 a year rising by annual incre- ments of £20 to £400 a year, and thereafter, subject to passing an efficiency bar at that point, by annual incre- ments of £10 to £600 a year. Your service during the three years of probation will count as service for purposes of leave and pension. The rules as to these subjects are as stated in the enclosed print, Eastern No. 121, which also contains information as to the rate of payment of salaries in the Colony. You will note that the rule as to vacation leave does not apply to officers attached to an educational institution. The special rules as to the leave of such officers are shewn in paragraph 3 of the print. In the
